Description
This is a mere 50
feet out of your vechile. You can journey through well maintained rock
trails to find bubbling brook and plant identifitcation throughout the
Children's Forest At The Kiln. The Forest is en route to the Oak Grove
Campground. The campground features 150' ponderosa pines, dozens of
them that shade the area. I was up there today and it was 82 deg. F
in July when I left campground and when I landed in Saint George a mere
30 min later it was 102! The campground is at 6200' above sea level
so you get nice breeze and cool temps in the shade. It is $5 self-pay
to camp in campground. It does have a bathroom and lots of space for
kids and adults to explore while in the shadow of Pine Valley Mountain.
Directions
Heading on I-15 North from
St. George you'll drive until you get to exit 22, Leeds/Silver Reef
where you'll exit. You'll then drive 1.5 miles from exit and take a
left on Oak Grove Road which goes under the freeway Northwest toward
Pine Valley Mountain. After you turn you'll then drive another 1.5 miles
and the road will turn to gravel. Continue on gravel road for 2.8 miles
at which time you'll see the sign for the Children's Forest At the Kiln.
Continue on another 7 miles up to the Oak Grove Campground the signage
is good. Road is narrow so if pulling a trailer or if you are driving
a bus, watch it. Most sites look like they are tent friendly or tent
trailer but not large trailers you'll hit a ponderosa if you're not
careful.
