Description
The trail is a remote rocky
jeep trail that gains elevation as it heads South to the mouth of the
West Canyon of Snow Canyon State Park. The course takes you to the edge
of the 1400' cliffs looking down the canyon. This area is unique with
much rock, lichens, moss, sand, and cactus.
The coordinates on the map for the 'Erastus Snow' geocache which can
be found at geocaching.com
located South East of the trail.
Full listing of coordinates for road can be seen here.
Directions to trailhead
1. Find intersection of Bluff Street and Snow Canyon
Parkway in west St. George. From the light, drive 11 miles North on
State Route 18.
2. At mile 11 on your left (West side), turn at Red Mtn Trail sign.
Drive over cattle gaurd.
3. If you use a GPS the coordinates for the parking area is N 37°
16.784 W 113° 39.163
4. With many forks it can be confusing, simply stay straight. You'll
know if you are on the right trail as you will hit a really rocky jeep
trail (not loose rock; rock that is embedded on the road)
5. After .2 miles the trail is to the right of the circle.
6. Continue on this jeep trail . . . if in doubt
simply follow the rocky road!
Enjoy the run and the views. It is a rigorous run but
will increase agility and strength. No snoozing on this run unless you
run with a helmet on! Also, enjoy the patches of 'sand box'. The road
is smooth and hard/smooth (not deep) sand from waypoint 010 to to about
013 then sandy from some point from 013 to 015. The best overlook is
at point 013.
Don't plan on driving this road unless you have some gnarly
tires and good clearance.
