Description
This route is a road/trail run. It gives you some absolutely
stellar veiws and some gnarly trail. You also get some nice running
at 6000' feet elevation as well as cool temps even in summer. I'd consider
this one a thigh burner at first with a galavanting cruise along the
top then a really nice ridge run down into Pine Park Campground. The
route can be started from either end but I recomment running it counter-clockwise
beginning at the campground and head up to the turn around point then
back down to the split-off at the South Boundary Pine Park Trail. You
cruise down the trail which is just over a mile and you loose 600 vertical
feet as you run along the ridge and down along a bubbling creek. I've
done the route at sunrise and welcomed some amazing vistas.
The campground has a few nice spots for tent camping with some nice
tall pines and shade. I believe I did see an improved outhouse-like
bathroom.
NOTE: Take a solid car and let others know where you
are going and when you are to return. You are off the 'beaten path'
and would not want to have car trouble out that far. Also, don't forget
to bring your camera.
